I have worked on a number of community based projects and public artwork. Below are some examples.

The Sea Inside

The Sea Inside was a community art project and collaboration with the artists Jacqueline Briggs and Alice Taylor. The project was funded by Nature.Scot's 'Plunge In! Coasts and Waters Community Fund.' The Sea Inside explored and celebrated the communities connection with the sea. We researched  knowledge and stories, linked with the local coast. We then created 'collage art packs' from the research, which we handed out to members of community (ages 3-87). This is what the final artwork is comprise of.

Cromarty Book Project

"How Cromarty Cares"was a deep mapping project by Dr. Issie MacPhail, which explored health and wellbeing in rural communities. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Izzy Thomson was commissioned to make a 5 page pop-up book and a 5 page 2D book. The 2D book was exhibited in The Edinburgh Parliament Buildings.

The pop-up book was illustrated, designed and fabricated by Izzy Thomson. It was printed at The Highland Print Studio and hand-bound in collaboration with artist and bookbinder Kristina Chan.

Northword Storytagging

I was awarded a ‘Northword Bringing Stories To Life, Development Grant’ from Robert Gordon University, to make a series of 12 small paintings based on the story of ‘Culbin: the disappeared village’. In 1694, a sand drift furiously swept across the Barony of Culbin in Moray, swallowing up 16 farms and Laird Alexander Kinnaird’s house. The story of Culbin has a variety of interpretations, from poetic responses to various myths and written retellings of what happened during the Great Sand Drift. From what I had read, I imagined that I could make a series of paintings that visually interpreted the tales and accounts surrounding the storm.
